Wade & Van Veen among stars to complete ET11
James Wade, Gian van Veen, Daryl Gurney and Stephen Bunting were among the seven players to complete a European Tour qualification double on Monday.
Tour Card Holder Qualifiers for ET11-12 took place in Hildesheim on Monday afternoon, with each qualifier producing 24 players for each event.
The German Darts Open (ET11) will be held at the Sparkassen Arena in Jena from September 8-10, while the Hungarian Darts Trophy will take place from September 22-24 at the BOK Sportcsarnok in Budapest.
Wade boosted his hopes of European Championship qualification with a perfect day at Halle 39, defeating Boris Krcmar and Jacques Labre in the final round of the respective qualifiers.
The ten-time TV title winner will be joined in each event by World Youth Championship finalist Van Veen, who maintained his sparkling form following a run to Sunday’s Players Championship 18 showpiece.
Daryl Gurney and Stephen Bunting also continued their impressive qualification records in 2023 to book their places in both events, alongside Belgian star Mike De Decker.
The other players to complete a qualification double in Hildesheim were Luke Woodhouse and Latvian number one Madars Razma, who won four consecutive matches to preserve their hopes of securing a place in October’s World Grand Prix.
Former European Champion Simon Whitlock won through Monday’s ET11 Qualifier to seal his spot in next month’s German Darts Open, with Scottish star Alan Soutar also clinching his qualification for Jena.
The ET12 Qualifier saw a host of big names book their places in Budapest, including European Champion Ross Smith, who posted a ton-topping average in his decisive victory against Ryan Meikle.
UK Open champion Andrew Gilding, former Grand Slam winner Jose de Sousa and German number one Gabriel Clemens were also successful, as they prepare to feature in the year’s penultimate European Tour event.
It was also a landmark day for Callum Goffin and Vladimir Andersen, who will make their European Tour debuts next month.
Goffin saw off Ryan Joyce and Ritchie Edhouse to secure his place in Jena, while Denmark’s World Cup star Andersen edged out Karel Sedlacek to win through the ET12 Qualifier.
Elsewhere, Kevin Burness landed a nine-darter during his victory over Rusty-Jake Rodriguez in the ET11 Qualifier, only to succumb to his compatriot Gurney in their decisive showdown
